Minimum Age: 12 years
Meeting Point: Riñinahue access
This excursion starts in Riñinahue, where you will meet Nieves Calcumil, a prominent local artisan who has been knitting beautiful piece-goods made of Mapuche wool since the age of 9 using the traditional techniques of the zone. We will then go to Karülafken, a place that will be described by a local guide, who will bring to life its origins so that you can fully appreciate the environment there. We will walk through the property, where you will see a lagoon set in the temperate rainforest.
“Maqueo Sabores Étnicos”
Our excursion will then continue to Maihue Lake, where there is a renowned small business called “Maqueo Sabores Étnicos” (loosely translated as “Ethnic Flavors Market”), a small, Mapuche women-owned family business engaged in preparing foods from wild fruits like the Chilean wineberry and Arrayan guava. A tasting of their products will be offered and you will be able to get to know their culture.
Finally, we will go to the pier on Maihue Lake to look out onto the lake and learn about its history. Changes may be made to this excursion depending on the availability of our local suppliers.
