Futangue sits in the lake region of southern Chile, three hours from Santiago: ninety minutes by air to Osorno, then ninety minutes by road to Lago Ranco. Daily flights connect Santiago with Osorno — the closest and most direct option — with Valdivia and Puerto Montt as alternatives. From any of them, the drive south winds past volcanoes, open green countryside, and the first glimpses of the lake appearing between the curves.
The location places Futangue within easy reach of a longer journey through Chile. It pairs naturally with the Carretera Austral or with destinations further south in Patagonia, offering travelers a rare combination: a private 13,500-hectare reserve of untouched nature at the end of a fully paved road.
By Plane
There are flights daily on Latam and Sky Airlines from the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport to the airports in the River Region and Lake Region that are closest to the park:
The Cañal Bajo de Osorno (ZOS) airport is 90 minutes by car from the park. The Pichoy Airport in Valdivia (ZAL) is one hour and 45 minutes away; and the El Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt (PMC) is two hours and 45 minutes away.
By Car
We recommend coming in a 4WD vehicle to have better access to some sectors of the park.
From the north
Take the exit to Reumen at km 858 on Highway 5 South towards Futrono (43 km). From Futrono, go around Ranco Lake on the east toward the town of Riñinahue (42 km). You will pass through Llifén, and by Calcurrupe River and Nilahue River. Finally, you will cross the Riñinahue River bridge and turn into the first entrance on the left at the main entrance to the park. It is 1.5 km from the road to the hotel on a dirt road in good condition.
To go to the Mt. Mayo entrance, continue on Road T-85 for 8.5 km towards the town of Lago Ranco and turn left across from the Pitreño Rural School. It is a 2.5 km climb from there, on a dirt road, to the visitor reception area. A 4WD vehicle is required for this last stretch.
From the south
Take the exit from the Tambores crossing at km 889 on Highway 5 South. Then continue as far as Rio Bueno (3 km). Take Road T-85 at Rio Bueno toward the town of Lago Ranco (50 km) and then go to the park entrance at km 22 on the road to the town of Riñinahue.
By Bus
Turbus, a bus company, travels year-round from Santiago to the municipalities of Lago Ranco and Futrono, which are 22 km and 42 km, respectively, from the park. In those towns you can hire a taxi or take public transportation that can drop you off at the park entrance in Riñinahue.
By Transfer
The hotel can arrange transfers from the nearest airports and cities, which may be shared with other hotel guests. The fares for 3-passenger cars and 7-passenger minivans are as follows:
One-way from Osorno: CLP 110,000 by car and CLP 170,000 by minivan
One-way from Valdivia: CLP 200,000 by car and CLP 260,000 by minivan
One-way from Puerto Montt: CLP 215,000 by car and CLP 320,000 by minivan
