In Indigenous language, Futangue means “grand canyon,” and it is the name given by the native people to the beautiful valley running along the river of the same name. Today, it is the dream location where you can discover the virgin nature of Northern Patagonia.

Futangue is the start of an adventure in one of the most enigmatic and fascinating regions in the world. Its trails, crossing mountains and pristine forests, give nature lovers the opportunity to explore via different excursions that go to beautiful lakes and waterfalls, through lava fields and to peaks with extraordinary views of the lakes and volcanoes in Northern Patagonia.

Plan your trip to Futangue
Learn about the open trails and hours of operation before you visit the park because they change with the season of the year. We recommend checking the weather in the Riñinahue area a few days before your trip so that you bring the right mountain gear. The park entrance ticket is good for one day and allows you to walk the trails on your own (self-guided).
Your ticket also makes a contribution to the conservation of the native forest and to environmental education in the municipality of Lago Ranco.

Futangue is a hiking paradise comprised of more than 70 miles of exclusive trails on 34,000 acres of a natural reserve at the foothills of the Andes
The park has two entrances for self-guided visits: The Riñinahue entrance, where the hotel, restaurant and cafeteria are located; and the Pitreño entrance (Mayo Mountain). If you wish to visit the park on your own, we recommend coming in a 4×4 vehicle to gain easier access to all sectors. Flora & Fauna
The park flora consists of a great wealth of species. 254 of those species are native and 58 are endemic. 25 of the latter are in a vulnerable condition, such as the willow-leaf podocarp and the Guaitecas Cypress. The Pudu and Darwin’s frog are fauna in an endangered state.
Endemic Flora
The park is home to around 70% of the flora of the temperate forests in South America. Most of the forests are Valdivian Forests, considered to be the centers of the most important biodiversity in the world because of the high degree of endemism and vulnerability. Some tree species grow at higher altitudes, such as the Lenga, Antarctic Beech, and Winter’s Bark.
Native Fauna
Futangue is a sanctuary for amphibians like the Darwin’s Frog, which has a particular way of raising its young, unique in the animal world. Mammals also live here, such as the puma, the pudú — the smallest deer in America —, the kodkod and the monito del monte, a small marsupial considered to be a living fossil because it is the only marsupial left of an extinct order. Of note among birds is the majestic Andean condor.
Fungi Kingdom
A wide variety of species of mushrooms can be found during the spring and autumn, of extraordinary shapes and colors. Some of these mushrooms are edible and of great culinary value, such as the changle, loyo and dihueñe. Also common are the wood ear, turkey tail and jelly cup mushrooms, among many others.
